MOBILE, Ala. – Jake Bush was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle and Eddie Kieffer had a pair of doubles as West Alabama defeated Spring Hill, 8-6, Wednesday at Stan Galle Field.

The victory improved West Alabama to 8-4. Spring Hill is 5-4.

Bush, the current GSC and NCAA South Region II player of the week, drove in three runs with a single, double and triple. Until he flied out to deep left field in the eighth inning, Bush had reached base seven consecutive times on six hits and a walk over the last two games. Kieffer drove in two runs.

West Alabama jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Spring Hill designated hitter Ryan Stevens belted a grand slam home run to in the bottom of the third. The Badgers stretched the lead to 6-3 with two runs in the fourth, but West Alabama answered with five runs on four hits and two Spring Hill errors in the top of the fifth inning. HSC committed four errors on the day.

Brandon Pennington (2-0) earned the West Alabama pitching win in relief of starter Josh Jones. Tanner Rainey worked a perfect ninth for his second save. Spring Hill starter Wes Parrish (1-1) absorbed the loss.

Five of West Alabama's 10 hits went for extra bases. Luigi Mendez also doubled for UWA.

Garrett Webb had three hits for Spring Hill. William Floros, Taylor Eads, Hunter D'Armond and Stevens chipped in two hits each for the Badgers.

West Alabama returns to Gulf South Conference play Friday at West Georgia. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. CST.
