BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Jake Bush drove in four runs with three hits and a pair of sacrifice flies as West Alabama defeated Miles College, 13-2, Wednesday at historic Rickwood Field.
The win is the fifth straight for West Alabama, improving the Tigers to 16-8. Miles dropped to 8-12.
Adam Chamblee drove in two runs with a double in the second inning and Bush's sacrifice fly chased
Mitch Holgate for UWA's third run in the third inning.
Tanner Rainey doubled in a run and a second run scored on a Miles error in the fifth to give the Tigers a 5-0 cushion.
Jack Cockrum singled and later scored on Bush's second sacrifice fly to give West Alabama a 6-0 lead. The Tigers used seven hits to score seven more runs in the seventh inning and erase any doubt.
Bush drove in two runs with a single and
Luigi Mendez tripled in two more to lead the seventh-inning explosion. Holgate also singled in a run and Cockrum was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in another. Rainey drove in a run with a two-out single.
West Alabama starter
Josh Jones (2-1) earned the win, not allowing a run on two hits over 5.2 innings.
Brandon Pennington went the rest of the way for UWA, giving up two hits and a pair of unearned runs while striking out three in 1.1 innings. Miles starter Tristin Davis took the loss.
Bush and
Nick Delgado had three hits each in a 15-hit offensive attack for West Alabama. Bush also had two of the Tigers' four stolen bases. Rainey and Chamblee chipped in two hits apiece.
West Alabama returns to Gulf South Conference play by hosting Mississippi College in a three game set. The current schedule has the Tigers and Choctaws playing a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
