Brown Nets Second Consecutive Game-Winner in Win over Mississippi College

JACKSON, Miss. – Alex Brown, with his second game-winning goal in two matches, scored in the final six minutes of regulation to lift the University of West Alabama men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Mississippi College in Gulf South Conference action on Sunday.

West Alabama improves to 3-4-1 overall on the season with a 2-0 start to GSC play. Mississippi College drops to 0-7 and 0-3.

Brown's goal was his second of the match with the first coming in the 35th minute to put the Tigers on the board with a 1-0 lead.

The Choctaws answered with two goals, both in the 43rd minute. Conor Corboy scored his first two goals within 22 seconds of each other to give MC a 2-1 lead at the half.

Jean-Baptiste Meyniel netted the equalizer for UWA just two and half minutes into the second half. It was Meyniel's second goal of the year.

The Tigers dominated the shooting effort, leading Mississippi College 26-8. UWA goalkeeper Joshua Bramwell (2-1-1) made two of four saves to pick up the win. Humberto Pelaez (0-7) made nine stops despite allowing three goals to take the loss.

"I am proud of the lads today. They showed great character today to comeback from behind," said UWA head coach Matthew Thorne. "Two away wins in a row is always difficult in the GSC. We have a ways to go to reach our potential but we are on the right track."

West Alabama men's soccer will return home to face GSC opponent Union University on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
