JACKSON, Miss. – West Alabama women's soccer bounced back from trailing by two goals in the first half, netting three in the second half to deliver Mississippi College's first loss of the year with a 3-2 victory in Gulf South Conference action on Sunday.
The Choctaws are only the third team to score on UWA this season as the Tigers improve to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the GSC. Mississippi College now falls to 6-1-1 and 2-1.
"Mississippi College are a quality side that deserved the lead in the first half, but we treated today like a cup final and we found another level of play in the second half to score some fantastic goals," said UWA head coach
Graeme Orr.
"Credit to the team heart and desire to win today. We will take a day off to recuperate and celebrate, but I cannot wait to get out on the training field Tuesday, because this is a team that truly is a pleasure to coach."
Two goals in the first half is the most West Alabama's stingy defense has allowed in a single period this season. In the second half, the Tiger offense took over with its second most single-period goals scored.
