MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Lincoln Memorial University edged out the University of West Alabama men's soccer team with the game's lone goal in the 68
th minute on Friday.
It is the program's first season opening loss for the Tigers, who are now 0-1 to begin the year. LMU improves to 1-0.
With 22 minutes left to play, Danilo da Silva connected to George Burne to break the stalemate. Both teams finished tied with nine shots each, while West Alabama led 4-3 shots on-goal.
Pedro Ozi picked up the win in the goal for the Railsplitters, making all four saves.
Brad Louis picked up his first loss of the year, while adding two saves.
Clay Green led the Tigers going 2-for-3 shots on-goal, while
Alex Brown and
Jean-Baptiste Meyniel each tallied one shot on-goal.
West Alabama men's soccer will open its home season on Monday against Nova Southeastern out of the Sunshine State Conference. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
