Ariel Wilson Has Double-Double, Tigers Beat UAH 78-68

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Ariel Wilson recorded her second straight double-double and four Tigers scored in double figures as West Alabama defeated Alabama Huntsville, 78-68, Saturday in Gulf South Conference women's basketball Saturday at Pruitt Hall.

With a four-game road trip in the windshield, West Alabama is 7-12 overall and 4-11 in the GSC. UAH lost its second straight game to fall to 11-8 and 8-7.

Wilson scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, making 6-of-10 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. With eight assists, she was just shy of her first career triple-double while playing 37 minutes.

"I have said all along that when everybody else does their job around her, Ariel's numbers will continue to go way up," UWA coach Rusty Cram said. "We had three other players in double figures today and have now played 16 straight quarters of pretty good basketball."

Moejha Calmes followed Wilson with 14 points, while Sydney King and Catherine Taylor chipped in 10 points each. Taylor had eight rebounds and Chloe Culpepper collected seven rebounds and blocked four shots for UWA.

"Who didn't?" Ariel Wilson said when asked who else had good games in addition to her. "My teammates are committed to doing what it takes and they all did their jobs. We guarded and we had post players finishing."

The score was tied 15 tied and the lead changed hands 13 more in a game where the Tiger bench outscored the Chargers 26-10 and UWA shot 45 percent (27-60) from the floor. UAH shot just 35 percent (23-65).

"The assistant coaches did a great job of making adjustments and our kids were very coachable today," Cram said. "Sydney King is playing really hard right now. If she can stay focused, the sky is the limit for her."

Baylee Johnson scored 17 points to lead UAH, followed by Josi Saunders with 14, Dina Saunders with 13 and Halle Jarnagin with 12.

West Alabama starts a two-week road swing Thursday Christian Brothers. Alabama Huntsville plays at Lee on Thursday.
