West Alabama Falls in Final Day of South Region Crossover

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of West Alabama volleyball dropped its final match of the South Region Crossover, falling to Sunshine State Conference-opponent Barry University 3-1 at the Orlando Sports Complex on Saturday.

The Buccaneers improve to 9-7 on the season, while the Tigers fall to 12-11 on a four-match skid.

Barry dominated the first set, out-hitting West Alabama .450 to -.192 on its way to a 25-10 set win. UWA responded in the second set, posting a combined .359 attack percentage while holding BU to .153 as the Tigers emerged as 25-18 victors.

The Buccaneers answered, taking the third set 25-20 and the fourth 25-12 to earn the cross-conference win in four sets.

Briana Sandifer led the Tigers' offense, turning in 21 kills on the day. Callie Murphy picked up two service aces in the match and collected 10 digs for the UWA defense. Abby Ames totaled 13 digs to lead West Alabama's defensive effort.

Jaeda Allen tallied 15 kills to lead the Buccaneer attack. Kat Espinosa recorded 24 digs to lead BU's defense, followed by Ariel Magnum with 10 digs. Genesis Castillo grabbed five blocks on the day, while Ivana Didanovic and Kristina Filimonova each collected four blocks.

The Tigers will return the Pruitt Hall and Gulf South Conference competition, facing off against Alabama Huntsville on Tuesday. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
