MOBILE, Ala. –
TeMia Pride's two goals and
Kirsten Reilly's three assists propelled West Alabama women's soccer to a 4-0 Gulf South Conference victory over Spring Hill at Library Field on Friday.
The Tigers improve to 9-5-1 on the season, moving to 7-2-1 in the league. The Badgers fall to 0-11-3 overall, dropping to 0-7-2 in the conference.
West Alabama got out to an early lead after a free kick from Reilly hit off the crossbar, allowing Pride to launch the loose ball into the net in the 13
th minute.
Abigail Clanton gave UWA a 2-0 advantage in the 70
th minute as another free-kick shot from Reilly was saved by the keeper, but failed to be cleared from the goal box. Clanton placed a shot on the deflected save, giving the Tiger defender her first collegiate score.
Pride improved West Alabama's lead to 3-0 just one minute later, netting her tenth goal of the year after her 25-yard shot bounced off the crossbar and into the net.
Ellen Sandstroem collected an assist on the score.
The Tigers grabbed their third goal in as many minutes as Reilly placed a pass through the Badger backline, finding
Chelsea Commings in the penalty area. Commings put one touch on the ball and finished to the near post to give UWA a final 4-0 lead in the 72
nd minute.
Issy Foster (9-5-1) made one save through 84 minutes in the net, helping the Tigers secure three conference points with the win. Kayla Beaston (0-10-2) made six saves on 27 shots faced in the loss.
West Alabama will travel to No. 17 West Florida for their final road test of the regular season on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
