Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball fell to Alabama Huntsville 3-1 in Gulf South Conference action at Spragins Hall on Tuesday.
The Chargers improve to 12-3 on the season, moving to 6-2 in league action. The Tigers fall to 10-7, dropping to 3-5 on a three-game conference skid.
UWA and UAH traded the first two sets to start the match. The Chargers came away with a 25-17 win in set one, but The Tigers fought back and earned a 25-23 victory in set two.
Alabama Huntsville closed out the match, winning the third set 25-19 and the fourth 25-16 to secure the match victory. Alabama Huntsville combined to hit a .252 attack percentage, while West Alabama finished with .147.
Yanesha Johnson led the West Alabama attack, totaling 16 kills on a season-high .361 attack percentage.
Briana Sandifer turned in her tenth double-double performance of the year with 14 kills and 13 digs, while
Taylin McCarver finished with 10 kills.
Abby Ames led the Tiger defense with 15 digs, and
Alex Fuelling recorded 10 digs.
Rachel Brugman led the Chargers' offensive effort, earning 13 kills on the night. Anna Claire Johnson and Lorah Yonce each posted double-doubles. Johnson finished with 12 kills and 17 digs, while Yonce tallied 10 kills and 19 digs. Kirsten Giles also landed double-digit digs, picking up 11 in all.
The Tigers will return to Pruitt Hall for a three-game stretch at home, beginning with a GSC match against Union University on Friday. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
