Thorne Grabs 50th Career Win, UWA Blanks CBU

Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – West Alabama men's soccer head coach Matthew Thorne grabbed his 50th career victory as the Tigers secured a 1-0 Gulf South Conference win over Christian Brothers at Signaigo Field on Friday.

The Tigers improve to 6-4 on the season, moving to 2-1 in GSC action. The Buccaneers fall to 4-5 overall, dropping to 0-4 in conference play.

"We are very pleased to beat a tough side like Christian Brothers away from home," Thorne said. "We kept a clean sheet with a great defensive performance."

"We had some very good performances from a number of individuals, including Jack Shiels, Jean-Baptiste Meyniel and Clay Green. However, it was the whole roster that pushed us to get the three points tonight. Now our focus is on Union for Sunday."

AJ Williams netted his sixth score of the year, beating the keeper from the right side of the 18-yard box in the 17th minute to give West Alabama a 1-0 lead that they would hold for the duration of the match.

Brad Louis (5-4) earned his second shutout in as many matches, making three saves while facing 10 shots. Ricardo Lao (4-5) surrendered one goal while making five saves in the loss.

The Tigers will remain on the road, facing off against Union University in a GSC contest on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m.
