Tigers Pick Up Clean Sheet in 2-0 Win Over Buccaneers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Issy Foster grabbed her second consecutive shutout as West Alabama women's soccer to a 2-0 Gulf South Conference victory over Christian Brothers at Signaigo Field on Friday.

The Tigers improve to 7-4 overall, moving to 5-1 in conference play. The Buccaneers fall to 3-8 on the season, dropping to 3-5 in the league.

"When you play away from home in this conference, you need to battle and be brave on the ball," UWA head coach Graeme Orr said. "We had an excellent response in the second half and created opportunities."

"I'm very proud of the ladies' effort tonight, but credit Christian Brothers. They played very well, so we are delighted to come away with three points."

Nine minutes into the second half, Marie Dreezen broke the stalemate open, netting a 35-yard shot over the keeper to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage. The score was Dreezen's second of the season, and her first game-winner as a Tiger.

TeMia Pride put UWA in front 2-0 in the 74th minute, winning a loose ball in the box after a failed clearance attempt and finding the back of the net for her seventh score of the year.

Foster (7-4) earned the win, making one save on 10 shots faced in her fourth shutout of the 2016 campaign. Emily Wragg (3-8) allowed two goals while making five saves on 10 shots faced in the loss.

The Tigers will continue on their GSC road trip, taking on Union University on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
