LIVINGSTON, Ala. – A first-half goal by All-Gulf South Conference performer TeMia Pride was all West Alabama needed to secure a 1-0 victory over Union in the first round of the 2016 Gulf South Conference Tournament Tuesday at Tiger Stadium.

Pride's goal came at 16:04 off an assist by Taylor Brackin and was one of 10 shots offered by the Tigers. The goal was Pride's 13^th of the season and gives her 28 points, both team highs for UWA.

"We played against a great team and started the game very well," UWA head coach Graeme Orr said. "The goal was a touch of class from TeMia. She was unplayable at times tonight."

West Alabama improved to 11-6-1 with the win. Union ended its season at 7-5-5. The Tigers will play top seed West Florida Friday in Pensacola in the semi-final round.

"Union played some excellent soccer in the second half, however we showed great character and kept competing to the end," Orr said. "I am really proud of the level of consistency this team has shown."

The win puts West Alabama in the semi-finals of the conference tournament for the fourth straight year. Orr credited senior experience and a top notch save by Tiger goalie Issy Foster to secure the victory over the Bulldogs.

"All the pressure is on West Florida come Friday," Orr said. "We showed tonight we are ready for the challenge."

The Tigers and Argonauts will kick off at 5 p.m. Friday at the UWF Soccer Complex.
