Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lane, Robinson Grab Double-Doubles, Tigers Top Warhawks 73-68

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - West Alabama men's basketball snapped a three-game skid behind Jahmal Lane and Gavin Robinson double-doubles, besting Auburn Montgomery 73-68 at the AUM Gymnasium on Thursday.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 5-4 on the season, while the Warhawks drop to 4-10.

"We didn't do a good job of managing the game down the stretch," UWA head coach Allen Sharpe said. "We had several possessions in a row where we turned the ball over."

"There's a fine line between continuing your attack and trying to kill some clock, but we made some mistakes at the end that we need to address."

The Tigers got out to a quick start, roaring to a 10-3 lead following a baseline three from Johnny Stallworth four and half minutes into the contest.

AUM cut the deficit to three with a 5-2 run before Robinson extended UWA's lead back to six with a tip-in off of a Domonique Alexander jumper.

Billy Ingram converted two free throws following three minutes of a defensive stalemate and connected with Lane for a dunk, igniting an offensive surge that saw UWA construct a 28-14 lead with 3:31 left in the first half.

With 48 seconds flashing across the scoreboard, Lane converted from beyond the arc, propelling UWA to its largest advantage of the game, a 16-point, 35-19 advantage.

Following the intermission, the Warhawks grabbed a quick four points, cutting the Tigers' lead down to 10.

West Alabama's defense stopped the bleeding and maintained the 10-point margin for six and half minutes before a layup from Ingram and a Jake Jobling trey extended UWA's advantage back to 15, leading 46-31.

The Warhawks whittled away at the Tigers' second-half lead, pulling within eight at the 2:50 mark on a layup from Desmond DeRamus.

With 19 seconds to play, Romoane Eager hit a baseline jumper to draw the scoreline to 70-68. The AUM press forced Ingram to the line with a foul, where he converted both free throws to put UWA back in front by four.

The Warhawks set up a three-point opportunity as the clock ran down, but the shot bounced off the rim and into UWA possession, allowing the Tigers to run out the clock for a 73-68 victory.

Lane and Robinson each posted their second double-double performances of the season. Lane finished with 23 points, hitting 8-of-13 from the field and 100 percent from the line. Robinson totaled 14 points and collected 10 rebounds in the win.

Ingram tallied 14 points for the Tigers, converting 4-of-7 from the field and all six of his free throw attempts. Stallworth followed with 10 points on two three-pointers and four free throws. Alexander recorded two blocks at the basket.

DeRamus led the Warhawks' offense with 14 points, connecting on 5-of-12 shots from the field and 4-of-7 free throws. Julius McCoy tallied 12 points, connecting on 3-of-5 field goals and 75 percent of his free throws. Eager followed with 11 points, hitting 50 percent from the floor.

DeRamus also led AUM on defense with four rebounds (seven total), while Kameron Hornbuckle collected two blocks.

The Tigers will return to Pruitt Hall for a New Years Eve match up against Gulf South Conference foe Shorter. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
