LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama will open the 2016 football season playing its first three games on the road before hosting Gulf South Conference rival North Alabama in the first home game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers will open the season on Thursday, Sept. 1 at North Greenville (S.C.) University and follow that with road matchups at FSC member Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 10 before opening GSC play Sept. 17 at Mississippi College. North Greenville will begin play in the GSC in 2018.

"The 2016 schedule serves as a tremendous challenge and we look forward to it," UWA head football coach
Brett Gilliland said. "We play 10 quality Division II opponents, including opening the season against a very strong North Greenville team in Tigerville, S.C.

"It doesn't get any easier with a week two trip to FCS power Stephen F Austin," Gilliland said. "The GSC portion of our schedule is always challenging. With North Alabama coming to Tiger Stadium for the first home game we expect a great atmosphere in Livingston."

In addition to UNA, the home schedule for West Alabama includes Delta State on Oct. 8, Florida Tech on Oct. 22, Valdosta State on Nov. 5 and Malone University to close the regular season on Nov. 12.

Following the three-game road swing to open the year, additional road trips for UWA are to Shorter, West Georgia and GSC football newcomer West Florida.
