West Georgia Ends UWA Women’s Season With 51-49 Win

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Georgia scored 25 points off West Alabama turnovers on the way to a 51-49 women's Gulf South Conference basketball victory over the Tigers Thursday at Pruitt Hall Gym.

"Half their points off our turnovers … against a zone," UWA coach Rusty Cram said. "That performance was humiliating and embarrassing. There is not one positive stat for us on that box score and that's on me."

West Alabama ends it season with a 9-17 overall record, 6-16 in GSC play. West Georgia ends it regular season 9-19 and 9-13. The Wolves advance to the first round of the GSC Tournament Tuesday at 10th ranked Union (25-2).

West Alabama jumped out to a 12-4 lead at the 3:04 mark of the first quarter, but West Georgia closed the period with a 7-0 run to make it 12-11 UWA heading to the second quarter.

McKenzie Parker hit a trio of three pointers for the Tigers only points in the second quarter as the Wolves took a 25-21 advantage to halftime.

West Georgia's largest lead was seven points with 2:49 left to play, but UWA refused to go away and cut the UWG lead to 48-46 on a pair of Peyton Parker free throws with 35 seconds to play. Bre'ana Singleton hit one of two free throws with 30 seconds left to stretch the UWG lead to 49-46.

An Ariel Wilson putback pulled UWA with one point at 49-48 with 14 .8 seconds to play, but JaDecchia Hill's two free throws with 14.0 left put the game away for the Wolves.

April Levy scored 19 points to lead West Georgia scorers. Singleton and Terrianna Cave chipped in 11 each. D'Asia Cain collected eight rebounds.

The Parker sisters, McKenzie and Peyton, led West Alabama scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Catherine Taylor recorded a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Sydney King collected a game-high 13 rebounds, but West Alabama got a combined one rebound and no points from its three post players.

"I have to go find us a post player," Cram said. "Nothing worked for us tonight and it is very frustrating. We obviously have some work to do."
