SAINT LEO, Fla. – Two first-half goals by Saint Leo proved to be the difference as the Lions edged out West Alabama women's soccer 2-1 on Friday.
The Tigers fall to 2-1 on the season, while the Lions improve to 1-1.
Arielle Kabangu gave Saint Leo a 1-0 advantage in the 27
th minute, punching in her second goal of the season from a yard out to open up the night's scoring.
Genevieve Gignac added to the Lions' lead with the game-winner on header off a crossed ball from Natalie Melillo in the 37
th minute, putting Saint Leo ahead 2-0.
Nina Coleman put the Tigers on the board in the 66
th minute with her first goal of the year, cutting the Lions lead to 2-1.
Megan Win-Charlton (1-1) earns the win, making seven saves on 17 shots faced.
Issy Foster (2-1) takes the loss after allowing two goals while making seven saves.
The Tigers will remain in Saint Leo to face Florida Tech on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m.
