Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – American Volleyball Coaches Association No. 25 West Florida swept West Alabama 3-0 in Gulf South Conference action at Pruitt Hall on Saturday.
The Tigers fall to 7-4 overall, dropping to 1-2 in conference action. The Argonauts improve to 6-4, staying perfect in league play at 2-0.
"We need to respond just like we did after the match against North Alabama," UWA head coach Alexis Meeks said. "We have the capability to hang with these teams, but we haven't figured out how to use our strengths against their weaknesses. We're going to keep working on the issues and building on our chemistry as a team."
The Argos took the three-set victory, winning the first two sets 25-11 before taking the third set 24-18 to earn the match victory. West Florida dominated the attack, combining for a .371 hitting percentage while holding West Alabama to .065.
Kourtney Pittaway and Corisha Smith led the Argos' attack, combining for 33 kills on the day. Pittaway led with 19 kills and a .486 hitting percentage, while Smith followed with 14 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
Tori Martella led the UWF defense with 16 digs, and Monique StCyr finished with 11. Pittaway also tallied 11 digs in the match to grab a double-double.
Yanesha Johnson totaled nine kills to lead the Tigers' offensively. Briana Sandifer recorded 10 digs to come out as the defensive leader, followed by Abby Ames and Johnson, each with nine digs.
West Alabama will continue in GSC play, taking on West Georgia at home on Thursday. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
