Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Tiger forward
Clay Green netted two goals, including the game-winner in 49 minutes on the pitch as West Alabama men's soccer defeated Union University 3-1 on Friday at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 3-5.
"It was a good win over a very good Union side that we will get to see again in two weeks," UWA head coach
Matthew Thorne said. "For ourselves, we're a little disappointed to concede that goal before the half. We shouldn't have found ourselves level at 1-1, but that's football."
"In the second half we made sure to keep a clean sheet and pushed on from there. We knew we would create some chances to score and made it 3-1 in the end. We're happy with what we've seen so far, but we're still just getting going. Now we will shift our focus to AUM on Sunday."
Harrison Roberts opened up the night's scoring, netting his third goal of the season from the far right side of the box in the 28
th minute. Green earned the assist on the score, hitting Roberts with a pass from just outside the center of the box.
Twenty seconds later, Union leveled the match at 1-1 after Cole Asfour netted the equalizer on a loose ball left bouncing in front of the goal.
Five minutes into the second half, West Alabama was awarded a penalty kick following a handball foul 10 yards in front of the Bulldog goal. Green capitalized on the situation, beating the keeper on the right side of the goal to put the Tigers up 2-1.
Green netted his second goal of the match two minutes later, scoring on the rebound of his own blocked shot to give West Alabama a 3-1 advantage they would not relinquish.
Brad Louis (2-3) earned the win making four saves while facing eight shots. Igor Luczensky (0-3) took the loss, allowing the game-winning goal in the 50
th minute.
The Tigers will hit the road to face off against Auburn-Montgomery on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
