THE SERIES
This is the fifth meeting between the Tigers and the Hawks. UWA leads the series 4-0 and is 1-0 in games played in Rome.
 
WEST ALABAMA
West Alabama is 1-3 overall, 1-1 in the GSC after a 45-7 loss to North Alabama last week.
 
NORTH ALABAMA
Shorter is 0-4 overall, 0-2 in the GSC after a 47-7 loss at Delta State last week.
 
THE COACHES
Brett Gilliland is 13-13 in his third season at UWA, his third as a head coach. Aaron Kelton is 0-4 in his first season at Shorter, 23-29 in his seventh year as a collegiate head coach.

West Alabama is one of just seven Division II teams in the nation not to have thrown an interception this season. Tiger quarterbacks Austin Grammer and Harry Satterwhite have not thrown an interception in 171 passing attempts.
 
TOP 20 RED ZONE
West Alabama is 20th in the nation in red zone offense, converting 92-percent of opportunities inside opponent's 20-yard line to points.
 
BEHIND THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE
The West Alabama defense is seventh in the nation averaging 9.8 tackles for loss per game. After four games the Tigers have already recorded 39 tackles for loss, including 10 quarterback sacks.
 
TIGERS IN THE NFL LAST WEEK
  • Kansas City WR Tyreek Hill had three receptions for 26 yards against the New York Jets.
  • Oakland WR Seth Roberts has two catches for 27 yards and a TD in a win at Tennessee.
  • New England CB Malcolm Butler had four tackles and a broken up pass in a shutout win over Houston.
 
TIGERS IN THE CFL LAST WEEK
  • Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Otha Foster recorded 4 tackles against Hamilton.
  • Edmonton Eskimos linebacker Deon Lacey had two tackles and an interception against British Columbia.
  • Saskatchewan Roughriders offensive lineman Kennedy Estelle has played in seven games, starting four.
     
COMMON OPPONENTS
Although the Tigers and Hawks have eight common opponents on the schedule, they have yet to play the same team this season.
 
LT, TAE, CJ ALL SECOND IN GSC
Tiger running back Lakendric Thomas is second in the GSC in rushing yards per game with 87.0. Receiver Donta Armstrong is second in total receptions with 28 receptions. Kickoff return man CJ Savage is also second in the league averaging 28.5yards per return.
 
AIR SICKNESS
West Alabama and Shorter are ranked in the bottom two spots in the GSC, respectively, in passing offense. The Tigers have been much better against the pass, currently fourth in the league at 222.8 yards allowed per game.
 
THIRD DOWN PROBLEMS
West Alabama is last in the GSC in opponents third down conversions, allowing four opponents to convert 40.3 percent of third down plays.
 
NOT GAINING GROUND
Shorter is really struggling on the ground this season. After four games, the Hawks are averaging just 33.8 yards rushing per game and 1.1 yards per carry.
