COLUMBUS, Ga. –
TeMia Pride and
Kirsten Reilly combined for three goals as West Alabama women's soccer defeated Lincoln Memorial 3-0 at the CSU Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.
The Tigers improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Railsplitters fall to 0-2 on the year.
"Experience was key today," UWA head coach
Graeme Orr said. "All of the veteran players helped the new players adapt to different tactics and systems."
"Last year we lost four goals to LMU, so I am delighted to keep a clean slate. LMU are a strong side, and we needed to be clinical in our finishing, which we were."
West Alabama opened up the scoring early on as
TeMia Pride netted her first career game-winner in the 7
th minute, beating the keeper to the left of the goal on an assist from
Kirsten Reilly.
Pride and Reilly connected one more time in the 34
th minute on a near identical score as Reilly hit Pride with a pass to the top on the box, allowing the Tigers' forward to find the net for her second goal of the match. The assist was Reilly's third on the season.
Reilly put the Tigers up 3-0 in the 66
th minute after a foul inside the box set up the midfielder for her first goal of the year on a penalty kick. Reilley finished with 4-of-6 shots on goal, while Pride landed 4-of-5 shots on target.
UWA goalkeeper
Issy Foster (2-0) earned the win, totaling four saves on the day. Kathryn Lundy took the loss after allowing two goals in the first half.
The Tigers will stay on the road to face off against Saint Leo on Sept. 9. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
