Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Nicholas J. Finch

Komani dazzles in win 3-0 win over CBU.

LIVINGSTON, Ala.— Anele Komani scored two second half goals and played a part in every score as the West Alabama Tigers gave the Christion Brothers Lady Bucs all the could handle in a 3-0 Gulf South Conference Women's Soccer match victory Sunday afternoon in Tiger Stadium.

UWA gets over .500 on the season with the win as the record now stands at 7-6 overall and 5-5 in the GSC. CBU drops to 8-5-1 and 5-2-1 in the conference.

"It topped off a great week," said Head coach Graeme Orr about the victory. "I'm very proud of the girls not just on the field, but we've had three games this week (Monday, Friday and Sunday and they've governed everything, we've done community service in between that, we've studied very hard. We just got the GPA award from the NSCA, so it shows they're working hard in the classroom as well. Well proud of the effort they've put out this week."

Both of Komani's goals came in the second half with the first at the 46:45 mark and then again with 81:03 passed off an assist from Haleigh Kimble. The two goals moved the freshman midfielder to six goals on the season.

"She's on a different level," said Orr of Komani. "When she's on nothing can stop her. She wants to go on the ball, but she works extremely hard as well."

Komani notched an assist on TeMia Pride's sixth goal of the season which opened the game's scoring at the 29:12 mark

The win keeps the Tigers' hopes alive for a berth into the GSC Tournament as the schedule winds down.

"It's just another three points, but obviously it's a team in front us so hopefully it's another step towards getting to playoff (soccer) games this season as we want," said Orr. "We'll come back in next week, be humble, and focus on Shorter for our next game."

UWA will spend the rest of the season on the road starting with a trip to Rome, Ga. to face Shorter on Friday starting at 4 p.m. locally.
