UWA winning streak snapped at five, fall 1-0 to Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The West Alabama Tigers did all they could to compete with the Lee Flames, but a stout defensive effort by the home team led to a 1-0 defeat in Gulf South Conference action for the Tigers and saw the end of a five-game winning streak.

UWA falls to 8-7 overall and 7-6 in GSC play. Lee improves to 12-4 and 11-2 in the conference.

Lee's Isabelle Berthoud scored the lone goal of the contest at 41:04 mark unassisted.

The Flames tough defense limited the Tigers to just three shots on the day with TeMia Pride leading the squad with two shots-on-goal.

Jenni Aarniva recorded 12 saves in the loss.

Thanks to the five-game winning streak, UWA has clinched a spot in the GSC Tournament and can finish as high as the sixth seed in the conference with a win Thursday against the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Christian Brothers having no better than a tie against Union on Oct. 26. The Tigers road contest against UAH is set to start at 5 p.m.
