Brett Gilliland as the Tigers defeated West Florida 45-21. UWA scored early and often, building a 28-7 lead by halftime, thanks mainly to quarterback

Donta Armstrong. Grammer and McGhee hooked up for three touchdown passes in the first 30 minutes. Armstrong had 11 first-half receptions. West Alabama rang up 536 total yards in the game and limited the second-most potent offense in the GSC to 130 yards under its average.

Despite a narrow 41-39 loss at Florida Tech, the West Alabama football team dropped seven spots in this week's American College Football Coaches NCAA Division II Poll to No. 25.

The Tigers are the lone Gulf South Conference representative in the Top 25. Delta State (6-2) dropped out after a home loss to Valdosta State (3-3). The Statesmen, along with West Georgia (6-2) and West Florida (5-2), received votes.

The UWA Athletic Department is inviting all former Tiger student-athletes, athletic trainers, administrators, managers and coaches from all sports to be recognized on the field prior to the football game against West Florida on Oct. 28. COACH G TIED FOR FOURTH
Brett Gilliland comes into the game tied for fourth on the UWA all-time wins list with 25. A victory over UWF would tie Gilliland for third all-time with Bobby Wallace, who was 26-30 from 2006-10. He needs seven wins to become the all-time winningest coach in UWA football history.

HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES 73, 74 and 75
Former football stars Kendrick Office and Charles Martin, as well as softball great Valisha Fincher compose the 2017 induction class for the University of West Alabama Athletics Hall of Fame. They will serve as honorary captains for the game.

HOMECOMING HISTORY LESSON
UWA was chartered as a church-related female academy in 1835 and admitted its first students in 1839. It has been known as Livingston Female Academy and State Normal College, State Teachers College, Livingston State Teachers College and Livingston University. In 1995 the name of the institution was changed to the University of West Alabama.
