Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tigers fall in NCAA Regional Final to Lynn, 1-0

BOCA RATON, Fla. – An historic season has come to an end for the West Alabama Tigers Men's Soccer team as the regular season and tournament Gulf South Conference Champions fell to the Lynn University Fighting Knights 1-0 in the NCAA South Regional Final Friday night.

"It was obviously a tough game anywhere in the South Region and this was the region final so of course you're going to have fantastic competition in Lynn," said Head Coach Matthew Thorne. "I give credit to Lynn. They're a very well-organized team. They have talent throughout."

UWA suffers its first loss since dropping a contest to Spring Hill College on Sept. 17 and concludes the season with a 16-3-1 record, which is most wins and best record in the program's history.

"It was a tight, tight game and unfortunately the penalty was the decision in the end," said Thorne. "I just want to give Lynn all the credit. They were very solid defensively and wish them all the best in the next few games coming up."

The game's one goal came when Sebastian Radakovics scored his first goal of the season after being awarded a penalty kick and came with just 35 seconds remaining before the half time break.

"We continued battling to the end and it's just really unfortunate that I don't get to continue to battle with my brothers," said senior goal keeper Brad Louis about the team after the penalty kick.

Lynn outshot the Tigers 14-7 and used a stout defense to make sure a UWA player saw two Fighting Knights no matter where the Tiger was on the field. Jean-Baptiste Meyniel had the lone shot-on-goal for UWA and Alvaro Macias led in total shots with three.

The loss concludes the collegiate careers of nine outstanding seniors in Louis, Pablo Fierros, Jamie Cox, Liam Ireland, Patrick Carroll, Stephen Carroll, Keegan McQueen and Erik Rivera, however this is a senior class that has won four consecutive GSC Championships and will be regarded as elite winners.

"I just want to say thank you to all the players for all the work they've done. It's been an absolute pleasure with them on and off the field," said Thorne. "All these seniors here have come in and made history here at West Alabama. I can't say how proud I am. They've given 100 percent since day one, set the bar and made history."

Lynn meets Young Harris in the Super Regional Final with the winner advancing to Kansas City to play for a national championship.
