West Alabama Cruises to Exhibition Win Over Antelope Valley

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama jumped out to a comfortable lead and never looked back on the way to a 100-73 exhibition women's college basketball victory over Antelope (Calif.) Valley Thursday at Pruitt Hall Gym.

The Tigers led by 10 after the first quarter and then 49-24 by halftime in a game that saw West Alabama use 13 players by the end of the first half. All 13 Tigers that played got into the scoring column.

"I think we grew up tonight and I was pleased by what I saw," UWA head coach rusty Cram said. "You don't score a 100 unless you are doing something right. We have quality depth for the first time in a while."

Elaine Field led West Alabama scorers with 17 points, 14 of those coming in the first half. Sydney Bozeman chipped in 12 more, with eight coming in the second half. True freshman Tazsa Garrett-Hammett and Kim Parrish rounded out UWA double digit scorers with 10 each.

"Kim Parrish set the tone early by knocking down some pullups and Eli (Field) played hard like she always does, believing every ball belongs to her," Cram said. "J'Nyiah Daniels is going to be a really good player and Tazsa Garrett-Hammett's future is as bright as any I've seen.

"Of course, there are still some coaching moments to come out of this one," Cram said. "We weren't as crisp against a zone as we will be and for a short time we got caught up playing the way they wanted to play instead of playing our game."

West Alabama shot 75 percent from the free throw line, making 30-of-40 attempts. Antelope Valley managed just 46 percent from the line, making just 12-of-26.

Ahjana Oakes scored 20 points for Antelope Valley to lead all scorers. Ahteana Jones and Tylen Price added 11 each, while Kyleesha Green chipped in 10.

West Alabama will play one more exhibition before starting the regular season. The Tigers are host to Alabama A&M Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
