Tigers advance to fifth consecutive GSC Championships Final

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – One more game stands between The West Alabama Tigers and a guaranteed berth in the NCAA South Regional after UWA defeated the Montevallo Falcons 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference Men's Soccer Championship Semi-finals.
 
UWA (15-2) moves on to the title round for the fifth consecutive year with aims of winning the tournament for the fourth straight time. Montevallo (9-5-4) has most likely play the final match of the 2017 season.
 
The Tigers needed only one goal and it came at the 28:22 mark when Gaspard Voituriez-Donnelly scored on an assist by Jean-Baptiste Meyniel for the early game deciding goal.
 
UWA outshot the Falcons 23-11, but the most telling numbers come from the first half where the Tigers outshot UM 15-3. In the second half, both teams were even on shots due to No. 1 seeded Tigers controlling the game tempo throughout.
 
Ali Brador and Kyle McLeod both took four shots, but it was Harrison Roberts and Cole Webster who went 2 for 3 in shots-on-goal.
 
The GSC Men's Soccer Championship Final is 12 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex in Montgomery, Ala. and will play the No. 2 seed University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers. The two teams played on Oct. 31 in Huntsville to close the regular season where the Tigers emerged with a 1-0 victory.
