Tiger Women Open GSC Road Play at MC

CLINTON, Miss. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team will tip off its road portion of the 2017-18 Gulf South Conference schedule when the Tigers travel to Mississippi College Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
The Tigers (3-5, 1-1) broke into the win column in league play by defeating Alabama Huntsville at home, 62-55, last Sunday. Mississippi College is 3-5 overall, 0-2 in the GSC. The Lady Choctaws are coming off a 71-55 victory at Tougaloo on Tuesday that snapped a four-game losing skid.
 
This is the 23rd meeting in the series, with West Alabama winning five of the last six over the Lady Choctaws. The two teams split a pair of games last season, with each winning at home.
 
The Tigers are led in scoring by true freshman Tazsa Garrett-Hammett, who has been named GSC Freshman of the Week three of the first four weeks of the season. Garrett-Hammett is averaging 28.3 minutes played, 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds over the first eight games of the season.
 
J'Nyiah Daniels is the only other Tiger averaging in double figures at 12.0 points per game. She leads he Tigers in minutes played at 30.3 and assists with 2.5 per game. Furman transfer Sydney Bozeman leads UWA in rebounding at 5.8 per game.
 
Four Mississippi College players are averaging double figures in the scoring, led by Kelley Allen at 21.0 points per game. Allen is also averaging 13.3 rebounds and is one of three players in the GSC averaging a double-double.
