Tusculum Ruins UWA Women’s Soccer Opener

Box Score

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Tusculum College got goals from three different players and keeper Hannah Graham earned her first shutout of the season as Tusculum College defeated West Alabama, 3-0, in women's college soccer Friday at Tiger Stadium.

The game was the season opener for both teams. West Alabama plays Saint Leo Sunday in Memphis, while Tusculum returns to the pitch Sunday at Alabama Huntsville.

Brooke Radcliffe and Kate Guilford scored first-half goals before Cheyenne Upton added another goal in the second half to seal the deal for the Pioneers. Radcliffe's goal at 9:01 was assisted by Carly Mill and Guilford converted a Carly Culler throw-in. Sonja Ballmert assisted on Upton's goal.

"We got our heads down when they converted two goals, but we battled extremely well in the second half," UWA head coach Graeme Orr said. "We just have to make it harder for teams to score. In soccer if you don't defend, you lose."

Tusculum outshot UWA 16-14, but the Tigers had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Graham made six saves and UWA's Jenni Arnica had seven.
