Tigers drop home match 2-1 to UNA

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama Tigers saw an early lead go by the wayside as the North Alabama Lions scored two straight to capture a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Stadium in Gulf South Conference competition.

UWA drops to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in GSC matches while UNA improves to 7-1 and carries a 5-0 mark in the conference.

Temia Pride pushed in a goal off of a blocked shot of Ellie McKenzie to give the Tigers an early lead at the 4:29 mark on the clock. It was the third goal of the season for Pride.

However, UNA's Shelby Wall responded with an unassisted goal at the 30:05 mark to tie the game and then Kylie Huey scored with 49:46 passed in the game to give the visiting Lions the 2-1 final advantage.

"We wanted to try to get the ball down and play some good soccer today, and I thought we implemented that well in the first half," said Head Coach Graeme Orr. "We got an early goal and possibly could've gotten a second. We had a penalty that unfortunately didn't go our way and they had a good reaction in the second half to come out strong. Credit to the goals that tried to keep playing through the funk and create chances against a top defense."

Both teams reached double digit shots with UNA out shooting West Alabama 14-12.

UWA will have some time off before hitting the road Friday to take on Auburn-Montgomery. North Alabama will host Shorter in their next match on Sept. 29.
