Second half surge propels AUM to 3-1 victory over the Tigers

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After a quiet first half, the Auburn-Montgomery Warhawks erupted for three goals in the second to down the West Alabama Tigers 3-1 in Gulf South Conference play.

UWA drops to 4-6 overall and 3-5 in GSC play while AUM moves to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

TeMia Pride scored her fourth goal of the year to have the Tigers avoid the shutout.

"We finished the game strongly and must carry that into Sunday," said Head coach Graeme Orr.

Two goals from AUM's Ruby Mendez, in the 48:40 minute and again at the 52:37 mark put the Warhawks up suddenly 2-0. Then Stine Svaerke added a goal of her own on an assist from Alison Singleterry.

UWA outshot AUM 18-10, but eight saves from the Warhark's Felicia Wester kept the Tigers off the board for most of the night.

The Tigers return to action Sunday against Montevallo starting at 4:30 p.m. AUM hosts Alabama-Huntsville on Oct. 1.
