SAMUEL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK
Tiger junior linebacker Terry Samuel earned Gulf South Conference defensive player of the week for his 11-tackle performance in the Tigers win over UNA.

TIGER OFFENSE IN THE RED
West Alabama's offense is leading the nation in red zone offense, having converted all 18 trips into the red zone into points. Thirteen of the 18 have been touchdowns.

DANGERFIELD OF D2
Even after a 21-point win at No. 10 (AFCA) and No. 7 (D2Football) North Alabama to improve to 3-1 with no D2 losses, the Tigers still can't get any respect, or a ranking, in the two main national polls. The snub brings to mind the late great comedian Rodney Dangerfield's catch phrase "I don't get no respect."

MY HERO
Even if the AFCA an D2football voters are snubbing the Tigers, herosports.com has West Alabama ranked No. 3 in the nation in its Bennett Rankings behind Texas A&M Commerce and Sioux Falls.

21 STRAIGHT
Shorter comes to Tiger Stadium with a 21-game losing streak. The Hawks last win was on Oct. 13, 2015, 42-23, at Mississippi College.

COMPLETION PERCENTAGE
West Alabama is fifth in the nation in pass completion percentage at 71.1 percent, completing 113-of-159 passing attempts.

HARRY HIGHLIGHTS
Tiger quarterback Harry Satterwhite is sixth in the nation in completions per game at 28 and seventh in completion percentage at 71.3. He leads the GSC in passing yards per game (260.8) and total offense (262.5).

TIGERS CONTINUE TO BE OFFENSIVE
The UWA offense leads the Gulf South Conference in scoring (41.8), passing offense (276.5) and first downs per game (24.0).

GETTING DEFENSIVE
UWA is third in the GSC in first downs allowed(17.0 pg) and tied for third with nine quarterback sacks, getting seven at UNA.

LT FOR 6
Tiger running back Lakenderic Thomas is tied for first in the GSC and is seventh in the nation in rushing touchdowns with six.

SPECIAL TEAMS
Tiger kicker Colin Douglas leads the GSC in kick scoring at 8.8 ppg. and Zach Gaines leads the league in punting at 41.1 ypp.

COACH G TIED FOR 7TH
With the win at UNA last week, Tiger head coach Brett Gilliland moved into a tie for seventh place on the UWA all-time coaching wins list with 22. He is tied with James Garner, who was 22-39-1 (1960-66).

10 MORE FOR BRETT
Coach Brett Gilliland is 22-15 since taking over the Tiger program in 2014. Gilliland needs just 10 wins to become the all-time winningest coach in UWA football history. Frank North won 31 games from 1979-84 to hold that record. Micky Andrews, who won the school's only national title in 1971, won 75 percent of his games (23-7-2) from 1970-72.

TOUGH ON FOURTH
The West Alabama defense has been tough on fourth down through four games this season, allowing just two conversions in 11 attempts.

TEVIN AROUND THE BALL
Senior cornerback Tevin Madison seems to always be around the football. Madison has 25 tackles, two interceptions, five broken up passes, two fumbles forced and two fumbles recovered.

COMING UP NEXT
West Alabama hit the road for a GSC matchup at Delta State on Oct. 7.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
