LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 2018 University of West Alabama football schedule will feature an early touch of home with the Tigers opening the season with three consecutive home games as part of a six-game slate at Tiger Stadium.
The defending Gulf South Conference champions will begin the 2018 season by hosting Lenoir-Rhyne on Thursday, Aug. 30, followed by a second Thursday night in Tiger Stadium against Miles College on Sept. 6.
Valdosta State pays a visit to Tiger Stadium on Sept. 15 to open Gulf South Conference play in week three, marking the first Saturday game of the season. The first three games are scheduled for 6 p.m. kickoffs.
Balancing the three-game homestand to begin the season are three of the next four games being played on the road. The Tigers visit South Carolina on back-to-back weekends, Saturday, Sept. 22 at Limestone College in Gaffney and North Greenville Saturday, Sept. 29 in Tigerville. Rounding out the three-game road swing is a trip to Shorter on Saturday, Oct. 6.
Delta State visits Tiger Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. to begin a home-away four-game stretch to end the 2018 regular season. Following a trip to West Georgia on Saturday, Oct. 20, UWA entertains Florida Tech for Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m.
A trip to Mississippi College on Saturday, Nov. 3 and a home game against West Florida on Nov. 10 ends the regular season. Kickoff for the season finale against the Argos is 2 p.m.
The 2018 NCAA Playoffs get underway on Saturday, Nov. 17.
West Alabama has played North Greenville in each of the last two seasons, but this year's meeting will be the first between the Tigers and Crusaders as GSC opponents. Noticeably absent from the schedule for the first time since 1949 is North Alabama, which begins its transition to the Football Championship Series (FCS) in 2018.
Non-conference games for the Tigers are Lenoir-Rhyne, Miles and Limestone. The Lenoir-Rhyne game is a return contest after the Tigers opened last season in Hickory, North Carolina. Miles and UWA last played in 2015, while the meeting with Limestone College will be the first between the Tigers and the Saints.
The combined 2017 record for UWA's 2018 opponents is 57-61, 44-44 among conference foes and 13-17 for the three non-league opponents.
