Tigers down SHC, Pride Sets Team Record

MOBILE, Ala.– The West Alabama Tigers struck early and rode the momentum to a 4-1 victory over the Spring Hill College Badgers Sunday after in Gulf South Conference Women's Soccer action. During the win, junior forward TeMia Pride set the program record for most goals in a single season.
 
UWA improves to 9-4-1 overall and 7-3 in the GSC. SHC falls to 1-11-1 and 1-8-1 in the conference.
 
"Happy with the result," said Head coach Graeme Orr. "Thought we could have worked hard at time without the ball, however some great performance from Megan Ongteco, Abigail Clanton and Aliya Seebrat."
 
The Tigers scored 22 seconds into the match when Bailee Martin scored on a header from an assist from Pride. At the 6:13, Ellie McKenzie scored with an assist from Martin to put UWA 2-0.
 
Spring Hill got on the board at the 9:40 mark with a goal from Devin Fry.
 
From there, Pride scored her recorded tying goal at the 15:31 mark with an assist from Megan McGettigan and set the record at the 66:22 mark with her 16th goal of the year with assists from bot Kaylah Butterworth and Anele Komani.
 
Pride, a native of Huntsville, Alabama, now sits at 37 career goals which is good for second place all-time in UWA history. Nicki Gears holds the school record with 47 goals from 2011-2014.
 
The Tigers have the remainder of the week to prepare for more conference action.
 
"We need to rest up as Friday night we showed we can compete with the best in the nation and we need to bring that to the last three home games," said Orr.
 
West Alabama returns to Tiger Stadium for a GSC match against Shorter on Oct. 19 with that match scheduled for a 5 p.m. start time.
