Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tigers Blank Shorter, 2-0

LIVINGSTON, Ala.– The West Alabama Tigers took a ton of shots, but only needed a couple to find the back of the net in a 2-0 win over the Shorter Hawks Friday evening in Gulf South Conference Women's Soccer Action in Tiger Stadium.

UWA improves to 10-4-1 on the season and 8-3 in the GSC. Shorter falls to 3-11-1 and 1-7-1 in the conference.

"The challenge was to get the 10th season win tonight and eighth conference win. It equals the very best we have had at UWA," said Head coach Graeme Orr.  "These ladies have given me everything since Aug. 9 and deserved the win tonight. It sets us up for exciting couple of games to finish the regular season."

As a team, the Tigers took 26 shots with 12 being on goal while Shorter was limited to 12 shots and eight SOGs.

Bailee Martin scored her fourth goal of the season on header at the 21:14 mark with an assist from Aleah Headley to give the Tigers the early lead.

Scoreboard went untouched until the 80:46 mark with Megan Ongteco scored her first collegiate goal with an assist from Aliya Seebrat to give UWA the 2-0 final.

Jenni Aarniva made the start in the goal and made eight saves on the evening.

West Alabama will have a chance to clinch hosting an opening round match in the GSC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament with a win Sunday afternoon against the Lee Lady Flames. The match is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
