Tigers Earn NCAA Tournament Bid for First Time in Program History

LIVINGSTON, Ala.– The field of 64 teams is set and the West Alabama Tigers are heading to West Palm Beach, Florida to take on the Barry Buccaneers out of the Sunshine State Conference on Nov. 15 in the NCAA South Regional Tournament. This is the first NCAA Tournament appearance in the program's history.

"I am still overwhelmed with how much this team has accomplished this year and I am so excited to have at least another week with them," said Head coach Alexis Meeks. "We got to play Barry in the Crossover this year, so we know what to expect a little bit. They are a big team with great ball control. However, we did not play to our potential in our first meeting so I'm excited that our girls get another chance against them. So proud of this team. We're dancing!"

The regional will be hosted by the top seed Palm Beach Atlantic University who enters the tournament 27-4 and coming off a five-set win over Eckerd. The tournament will take place Nov. 15-17.

UWA enters the tournament 22-8 after falling just short in the Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championship Finals earlier today to the West Florida Argonauts in five sets. The Argos are in the tournament as the fifth seed.

The Bucs enters the tournament 28-3 after defeating Embry-Riddle in four sets to finish the regular season.

In the first meeting between these two squads on Oct. 20 during the GSC/SSC South Region Crossover, Barry came away the victors in three sets. Other familiar opponents in the regional include the top seed PBA and the aforementioned West Florida.

Specific start times as well as links to live stats and live video will be posted when made available on uwaathletics.com.
