Second Half Turnovers Spell Doom for Tigers Against Texan Women’s

DENTON, Texas– The West Alabama Tigers held a halftime lead, but turnovers in the second half slowed the Tiger attack as the Texas Women's Pioneers earned a 70-56 win in the Hilton Garden Inn Pioneer Classic in the Kitty Winter MaGee Arena Saturday evening.
 
UWA falls to 1-3 on the season. TWU improves to 1-2 after gaining the victory in the battle of NCAA Division II opponents.
 
"I thought McKenzie played one of her better games tonight and Tan (Walker) did a great job as well," said Head coach Rusty Cram. "We had a good showing in the first half, but in the second we just didn't show up."
 
The Tigers held a 37-30 halftime lead before being outscored 40-19 in the second half in the 70-56 loss.
 
UWA committed 23 turnovers in the game, but five came in the final four minutes of the contest to quell the chances of a Tiger comeback.
 
Latangellia Walker led UWA with 10 points and grabbed four rebounds. Parker lead in rebounding with six and also scored nine points. J'Niyah Daniels contbuted with nine points, two rebounds and two assists.
 
West Alabama shot 31.6 percent (18-of-57) from the floor, 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from behind the arc and 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the free throw line.
 
Carissa Moody led TWU and had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Three other Pioneers finished in double digits as London Archer scored 16 while and Alexus Dukes and Bri'anna Gray both scored 11 points. 
 
Texas Women's just edged out UWA on the boards and won the rebounding battle 39-38 and won in points in the paint 36-20.
