Tigers and Chargers to Clash in GSC Volleyball Tournament Semifinals

PENSACOLA, Fla.– By virtue of being the second seed in the Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament, the West Alabama Tigers spent the opening round of the event as spectators waiting for teams to clash and determine who UWA would face in the semifinals. The question was answered tonight as the sixth seed Alabama-Huntsville Chargers will face UWA tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. on the campus of the University of West Florida.

UAH defeated the third seeded Lee Lady Flames in straight sets to earn the matchup with the Tigers.

While the Tigers (21-8, 13-3) received many All-Conference post season accolades, this team will need to have a solid showing in the tournament to secure an NCAA South Regional bid come Sunday night as UWA was seventh in the final regional rankings of the season.

West Alabama and UAH last met on Oct. 6 when the Chargers took the first two sets before Tigers stormed back to win the match in five sets. The meeting was the middle point of a five GSC match win streak which tied for the longest such streak in program history.
