UWA Softball Falls in Extra Innings to West Florida

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The West Alabama Tigers dropped game one of the Gulf South Conference Crossover Tournament to the University of West Florida Argonauts, 5-4 in 11 innings.

UWA falls to 3-9 overall and 0-1 in the GSC. The Argos improve to an 8-5 season mark and 1-0 in the conference.

The Tigers faced a back-and-forth battle against UWF, tying the game 2-2 in the sixth inning and taking the lead in the seventh inning, 3-2, before surrendering the lead in the bottom of the seventh.

Nora Keehn started on the mound for the Tigers, pitched 1.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits. Both runs were earned. Kamree Lay came in relief of Keehn, threw 5.0 innings and allowed one run on two hits. Carleigh Mills pitched the final four innings of the game and gave up two runs on four hits.

First-baseman Audrey Diekmann collected two out of the four RBI, while shortstop Haylie Best and Savannah Smathers collected an RBI each.

UWA totaled six hits while UWF collected 10. Both teams committed an error.

West Alabama will be back in action on Sunday, taking on West Georgia at 12 p.m. and Shorter University at 2:30 p.m.
