UWA Softball drops two to open South/Southeast Crossover

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – It wasn't the start the West Alabama Tigers were looking for as the team dropped a doubleheader in the first day of the South/Southeast Region Softball Crossover hosted by Flagler College.
 
UWA now stands at 3-5 on the season after starting the day with a 3-2 loss to the host Flagler College Saints and then a 4-1 defeat at the hands of No. 7 North Georgia Nighthawks.
 
Flagler College 3, West Alabama 2
 
The Tigers fell behind 2-0 after the first two innings but tied the game in the top of the fifth inning.
 
Junior Andrea Edmonds suffered the loss, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing one run on eight hits. Kamree Lay pitched 1.0 innings and allowed two runs on three hits.
 
UWA collected three hits, coming from Hayes Fulford, Kierra Hague, and Haylie Best. Best had the lone RBI for the Tigers.
 
North Georgia 4, West Alabama 1
 
The Tigers collected four hits. Junior Jenna Goldsmith earned the lone RBI, driving in a run in the third inning. The UWA hits came from Goldsmith, Abby McKee, Haylie Best, and Allison Craft.
 
Carleigh Mills pitched 3.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits. Junior Nora Keehn pitched 3.1 innings, allowing no runs on three hits.
 
UWA committed an error an error while North Georgia committed two.
 
West Alabama returns to action Saturday morning for day two of the mini-tournament against the hosts Flagler once more. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. central time. Links to live stats and live video will be available on uwaathletics.com.
