Tigers Split Doubleheader with DSU

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Tigers split the double header against the Delta State University Statesmen Thursday evening at the UWA Softball Complex.

UWA beat DSU in the first game of the Gulf South Conference series by a run rule score of 8-0 in six innings. Andrea Edmonds (3-6) earned the win, throwing the complete game shutout, striking out two and allowing six hits. The Tigers collected eight hits and took advantage of four DSU errors.

A homerun by Ashley Smart pushed the game over the edge, sealing the run rule victory in game one.

UWA had hits from six different Tigers, including two from Smart, Kendall Johnson, and Bree Thompson.

West Alabama dropped game two of the double header by a score of 7-4. A combined effort from Kamree Lay, Nora Keehn, and Carleigh Mills allowed 12 DSU runs. Mills (3-9) suffers the loss.

Lay pitched 2.1 innings and allowed two runs on three hits. Nora Keehn relieved the freshman, Lay. In Keehn's 1.2 innings of work, she allowed one run on three hits. Carleigh Mills closed out the game, pitching 3 innings and giving up four runs on six hits.

The Tigers totaled 11 hits and committed three errors. Ashley Smart collected two more hits. Nicole Buccieri, Savannah Smathers, and Abby McKee each collected two hits.
After splitting the double header, UWA is now 8-19 overall and 4-10 in the GSC.

The Tigers and DSU will meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. to decide a series winner. Live stats and video will be available on uwaathletics.com.
