West Alabama Falls in Series Finale against VSU, 8-5

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Three runs by the Valdosta State Lady Blazers to break a 5-5 tie proved to be the difference as the West Alabama Tigers dropped their Sunday afternoon Gulf South Conference contest, 8-5, in the UWA Softball Complex.
 
It was in the sixth inning where Jessica Mohl doubled in Cassey Cornelius, Danielle Patterson scored after Brandy Morgan was walked and finally Logan Hill singled in Mohl to cap the big inning.
 
UWA (6-16, 2-7) fell behind early when the Blazers (17-4, 7-2) scored two runs in the top of the first. However, the Tigers responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning when Chelsea Lobitios recorded her first RBI of the season to bring in Kendall Johnson. Haylie Best followed that up with a two-out single to right field to bring in Lobitos and Audrey Diekmann to go up 3-2.
 
VSU responded with a triple in the top of the third to score Mohl and then in the fourth Heather Robinson hit a solo shot to left field, her second of the year, to put the Lady Blazers back up 4-3.
 
Diekmann responded in the bottom of the same inning with a homer of her own sending her third of the year over the wall for 2 RBIs to bring in Olivia Dunlap who was pinch running. UWA went up 5-3.
 
A solo home run by Taylor Hartenbach tied the game in the fifth and from there VSU scored the finally three runs in the sixth to grab the win.
 
Andrea Edmonds (2-5) is the official pitcher of record, going 2.1 innings and allowing five hits and three earned runs. The junior pitcher struck out two batters. Carleigh Mills started the contest and went 2.1 innings with four hits, four runs allowed and two strikeouts. Nora Keehn pitched 1.2 innings and gave up two hits and a run.
 
VSU's Kathryn Carter went 6.0 innings with a strikeout, three hits allowed and three runs given up. Kasie Johnson started the game and went and inning and gave up three runs and three hits in the bottom of the first.
 
West Alabama hits the road once more Saturday to take on the Auburn-Montgomery Warhawks in GSC competition at the AUM Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. and links to live stats and live video will be available on uwaathletics.com.
