Tigers and Union Split Doubleheader, UWA wins GSC Series

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama Tigers split the doubleheader against the Union University Bulldogs and secured the series victory after losing the first game, 7-0, and winning the second game 10-3.
 
Carleigh Mills started for the Tigers in the first game but was relieved by Kamree Lay after allowing five runs on three hits. Lay pitched 4.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits.
 
Andrea Edmonds pitched the final two innings of the game. Edmonds also allowed one run on two hits.
 
Combined, the UWA pitchers allowed seven hits and held the Bulldogs to leave five runners on base.
 
The Tigers collected six hits and could not execute with runners on, stranding 12 on base. UWA also committed two errors.
 
In the second game, Nora Keehn held the Bulldogs to three runs on six hits in her complete game. Keehn now moves to 4-6 in her 26 appearances.
 
The Tigers collected six hits, including a two-run homerun by Allison Craft in the first inning to take the lead, 2-1. Kierra Hague also hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring the score to 10-3.
 
UWA's offense was also led by Nicole Buccieri, who hits two doubles and two RBI, and Kendall Johnson, who hit a double and a triple with two RBI. The Tigers scored two runs in both the first and third innings, five in the fourth inning, and one in the sixth inning.
 
West Alabama is now 18-26 overall and 10-17 in the GSC. The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday to take on the Mississippi College. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. in Clinton, Miss. Links to live stats and live video will be on uwaathletics.com.
