Late Tiger Rally Thwarted by MC

CLINTON, Miss. – The West Alabama Tigers rallied to tie the contest late, but in the end the Mississippi College Lady Choctaws came away victorious in the first game of the Gulf South Conference softball series between the teams.
 
Scoring was quiet until the bottom of the fourth when the Lady Choctaws scored two runs.
 
The UWA offense came to life in the sixth when Kylie Martin hit a bases-loaded single to left to score Shay Shepherd and Kendall Johnson to tie the game at 2-2.
 
However, MC scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to back up 4-2 for the final margin.
 
Kierra Hague finished 2-for-4 with a double to lead the team at the plate. Martin had the two RBIs for the Tigers in her pinch hit at bat in the sixth.
 
Nora Keehn (4-7) pitched 5.2 innings with two earned runs allowed before Andrea Edmonds finished the game in relief.
 
Cory Cooper (9-1) earned the complete game victory with eight strikeouts and seven hits allowed.
 
Both teams left runners on base with UWA stranding seven and MC leaving five.
