Long Ball Aides in Tiger Split with Montevallo

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama Tigers split the doubleheader against the Montevallo Falcons, losing the first game 11-6 and winning the second game 9-5 in Gulf South Conference Softball Action Saturday at the UWA Softball Complex.

The first game was a back and forth battle between the two teams, with both teams scoring four runs in the first inning.  UWA struck for seven hits but could not compete with the 15 hits by the Falcons.

Nora Keehn started the first game for the Tigers and gave up four runs on two hits. Keehn pitched only .1 innings before Andrea Edmonds came in in relief. Edmonds pitched 5.1 innings and allowed five runs on ten hits. Kamree Lay pitched the final 1.1 innings and allowed two runs on three hits. Keehn takes the loss and moves to 5-8.

The Tigers collected base hits from a variety of players, including a double and homerun by Allison Craft, a triple by Kylie Martin, two singles from Chrissy Tubbs, and a single from Ashley Smart and Kierra Hague.

In the second game, the Tigers came out on top behind a strong pitching performance by Carleigh Mills. Mills pitched 4.2 innings and allowed four runs on nine hits. Mills (6-10) gets the win, while Nora Keehn (4), who came in in relief and pitched 2.1 innings, takes the save.

Nicole Buccieri (5) hit two homeruns and Allison Craft (3) hit her second homerun of the day. Craft also collected two more doubles while Kierra Hague collected one as well.

The Tigers are now 20-29 overall and 12-20 in the GSC. The Tigers and Falcons will face off in the final game of the series and season Sunday at 1 p.m. in Livingston. Tomorrow will serve as senior day for three UWA student athletes who will be honored before first pitch. Live stats and video will be available on uwaathletics.com.
