Tigers Fall in Series Opener against UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In what seemed would be a pitchers' duel, the rain started to fall, and offenses came to life. However, the West Alabama Tigers fell to the University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers 10-6 in Gulf South Conference Softball action.

The Tigers (16-23, 8-14) found the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Nicole Buccieri singled between first and second base to score Kendall Johnson. Allison Craft then homered to straight away center for her first big fly of the season to give UWA a 3-0 lead.

However, the Chargers (24-10, 14-8) went on to score three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the contest at 3-3.

Then in the fifth, Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Kierra Hague to put the Tigers back on top 4-3.

UAH answered back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the sixth to take an 10-4 lead

West Alabama wouldn't go quietly as Johnson knocked in Hague for a second time and Buccieri singled to bring in Abby McKee.

Craft led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs. Hague also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Buccieri went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Johnson finished with two RBIs as well.

Nora Keehn (2-5) started the contest and went 4.2 innings with three strikeouts and even earned runs all coming in the fourth and fifth innings before being relieved by Carleigh Mills who went 1.3 innings with a strikeout, only two hits allowed and one earned run.
