UWA and Tampa Start Season with Tie

LIVINGSTON, Ala.– Scoring was plentiful for both teams in this contest, but in the end neither the West Alabama Tigers nor the Tampa Spartans could get the final separation needed to break the 4-4 draw after two extra time sessions. As a result, both teams earned a tie to start the 2018 season in Tiger Stadium Friday night.

"Delighted with the attitude and application of the girls first and foremost. They came out really fast and got a couple of goals lead," said Head coach Graeme Orr. "Tampa is a phenomenal side and we knew they would come back into it. We found ourselves down, answered the question and got back into it. I couldn't be prouder of the girls' effort tonight."

After grabbing a couple of assists yesterday, Bailee Martin scored two goals including first of the day on a free kick just 3:37 into the game and the her second on a penalty kick to tie the contest at 80:41 mark.

Tampa responded quickly with a goal from Erika Peitersen to get Tampa on the board with 41:56. This goal set off a furious finish to the first half as Kaylah Butterworth scored her first goal as Tiger off an assist from Komani at the 43:18 mark with a response from Tampa's Emily Cady at 44:08 to send the game to half time with a 3-2 lead for West Alabama.

The visiting Spartans opened the second half with two straight goals at the 48:17 mark by Lacy Nasello and then a second goal from Cady at 53:49 to take a 4-3 lead. Martin's aforementioned goal sent the contest into overtime.
