Tigers Fall in GSC Opener to Mississippi College, 3-2

JACKSON, Miss.– The ninth ranked West Alabama Tigers suffered defeat at the hands of the Mississippi College Choctaws 2-1 at Blazer Field on the campus of Belhaven University in the Gulf South Conference opening match for both squads Thursday night.

The Choctaws built a 2-0 halftime lead before the UWA comeback attempt started thanks to Ali Brador scoring his second and third goals of the season. The first with an assist from GSC Co-Player of the Week Harrison Roberts at the 68:22 mark and the second with an assist from Callum Rai at the 82:20 mark to even the score at 2-2.

However, a red card at the 86:07 mark on Rai gave the Choctaws a one-man advantage and MC immediately capitalized with the go-ahead goal from Owen Connelly to give Mississippi College the 3-2 edge in the upset victory.

The Choctaws took the edge in overall shots 14-8 and a slight lead in shots on goal 6-5. MC also committed more fouls with 14 compared to nine for the Tigers. Four yellow cards and a red card pulled on UWA and three yellow cards pulled on MC.

West Alabama (2-1-1) will have until Sunday to get over the sting of this loss as Delta State comes to Tiger Stadium for a GSC match. Action in Livingston, Ala. is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. as part of the second half of a doubleheader with the women's teams facing each other before this contest.
