Women’s Soccer Takes 2-0 Victory over Union

JACKSON, Tenn. – The West Alabama Tigers used an aggressive offensive effort with 26 shots to take a 2-0 victory over the Union Bulldogs in Gulf South Conference Women's Soccer action Friday night.

UWA improves to 4-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the GSC. Union falls to 0-5 and 0-3 in the conference.

"Very professional team performance," said Head coach Graeme Orr. "Aleah Headley dictated the game like a quarter back and finished off a great team goal with a majestic strike. I was delighted for her and Abbi Russell to grab their first of many goals."

Of the 26 shots by the Tigers, 12 of them were shots on goal. Union took six total shots and three were on goal.

West Alabama took the advantage at the 44:45 mark when Russell connected for the first goal of her collegiate career off an assist from Alina Kosunen.

After the break, Headley hit her first goal of the year with an assist from TeMia Pride at the 60:09 mark to give UWA the 2-0 final score.

Union committed 15 fouls compared to only eight for UWA. Jenni Aarniva collected three saves.

The Tigers continue the road trip Sunday with a GSC match against Christian Brothers which is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in Memphis, Tennessee. Link to live stats is available on uwaathletics.com.
