Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pride Scores Early, Tigers Defeat UWG on Road

CARROLLTON, Ga.– With just 1:53 passed in the contest, TeMia Pride broke free for a goal and the West Alabama Tigers never looked back and claimed a 2-0 Gulf South Conference Women's Soccer victory on the road over the West Georgia Wolves Friday afternoon.

"It was a great performance against a very organized team," said Head coach Graeme Orr. "I thought we started great with a good counter attack goal with Bailee and TeMia. Then we were brave getting on the ball with Anele and Aleah throughout the whole game. The second goal was pure art a real team goal. Player to player I thought we were excellent tonight."

UWA improves to 5-3-1 and 3-2-0 in the GSC while UWG falls to 3-4-2 and 3-2-0 in the conference.

The goal, assisted by Bailee Martin, for the junior from Huntsville, Alabama was her team leading seventh of the year which puts her just one more ahead of Anele Komani who scored her sixth goal of the year later in the contest to put the Tigers up 2-0. Komani's goal came at the 55:39 mark off an assist from Ellie McKenzie who leads the squad with five assists.

The Tigers outshot the Wolves 15-14, but it was West Georgia who took the advantage with shots on goal with six while UWA had five.

West Alabama continues the road trip to southeast Georgia with a match against the Valdosta State Lady Blazers. The Sunday contest is scheduled to start Noon CDT. Links to live stats will be available on uwaathletics.com.
