Pride’s Two Goals Lifts Tigers over VSU, 3-2

VALDOSTA, Ga. TeMia Pride scored the goal to get the West Alabama Tigers in overtime and then scored the game winner, as UWA claimed a 3-2 road victory over the Valdosta State Blazers in Gulf South Conference Women's Soccer action Sunday afternoon. The win marks the program's first win at VSU.

Pride's goals came at the 70:20 mark with an assist from Ellie McKenzie and at the 93:15 mark with touches from Alnia Kosunen and Anele Komani. The stellar day puts Pride up to nine goals on the year.

"Extremely proud of the ladies," said Head coach Greame Orr. "We battled hard in first half and second half we challenged the ladies to be brave in possession and have more shots. To go away from home and have 14 shots in second half only shows the fitness the drive the character of this group. We never gave up and got the award in overtime."

McKenzie scored the first Tiger goal at the 25:43 mark on an assist from Pride to give UWA a 1-0 lead.

However, goals by Ashley Lewis at the 34:08 mark and Lexie Hall at the 56:41 mark gave the Blazers the lead they held until Pride forced overtime.

UWA took 23 total shots compared to 16 for VSU. The Tigers also led with shots on goal 12 while the Blazers took nine SOGs.

Tabitha Weldon finished the match with seven saves.
